AAG Guest Speaker Artist Russ Johnson - November 12th!

The Allentown Art Guild is pleased to announce New Jersey Artist Russ Johnson will be speaking at our meeting on Friday, November 12th 2010 at 7pm. A full-time artist and workshop leader from Princeton Junction, Russ is widely known for watercolors that capture the many moods of Coastal Maine and rural New Jersey.  His signature workshop, “Painting the Masters of Watercolor,” guides participating artists through three days of painting watercolors in the style of JMW Turner, Paul Cezanne, and Andrew Wyeth.  He is presently preparing a workshop focusing on three American masters: Winslow Homer, John Marin, and John Singer Sargent.

Russ’s work ranges from loose, impressionistic sketches to highly realistic drybrush paintings that hearken back to a technique first mastered by Albrecht Durer nearly 500 years ago and later refined by Andrew Wyeth.

Russ is represented online by The New American Gallery, www.newamgallery.com.  He holds both undergraduate and graduate degrees from Wagner College.

You can learn more about him at his website http://www.rhjart.com/

This meeting will be open to the public for a $10 entrance fee. Meeting will be held at the Jeff Martin Studio, 78 North Main Street, Allentown, NJ.

AAG Group Show: New Beginnings Opening!

"Every day is a fresh beginning, Every morn is the world made new"

Begin again. Take a deep breath and set your eyes to the horizon. Anything is possible.
The Allentown Art Guild, in collaboration with the Laurita Winery, invites you to attend New Beginnings, an exhibition featuring works by the multi-talented members of the Allentown Art Guild. The exhibiting artists reflect a wide range of styles: non-representational abstract, impressionism, realism, and expressionism, and a wide variety of subject matter with New Beginnings being the common theme.

The public is invited to the opening reception on Sunday, May 23, 2010, from 2-5 pm at the Laurita Winery, 35 Archertown Road in New Egypt, New Jersey. There is no charge for admission for this event and RSVP is not necessary. Everyone is welcome and encouraged to attend. The art work will be on display from May 23rd thru September 19th, 2010.

The Allentown Art Guild is comprised of 25 plus members – full-time and part-time artists from the Allentown, Cream Ridge, Perrineville, Roosevelt and East Windsor areas. Since the Guild was formed as a non-profit organization just over three years ago, it has made tremendous strides in appreciation of the arts in the community.

The Guild holds monthly meetings that include workshops, demonstrations and lectures by distinguished artists from New Jersey. The public is invited to attend many of these events since it is the Guild’s goal to encourage art appreciation in our community as well as to encourage artistic growth among its members.

Information about the exhibit, monthly Guild activities or information on how to become a member can be found on the Guild web site at:
http://www.allentownartguild.org

Nestled in a natural setting that invites visitors to return again and again, not only for its wine, but for its natural and architectural beauty, the Laurita Winery is a unique destination featuring beautiful vineyards, trails to explore, spacious patios and private wine tasting rooms. Co-owners Randy Johnson and Ray Shea designed Laurita to be guest friendly as well as environmentally friendly, to the greatest extent possible.
“I estimate that about 60 percent of Laurita Winery is made from recycled or salvaged material”, says co-owner Randy Johnson. The uniqueness of Laurita Winery can only be compared to the wines the venue produces. Old world vision meets state of the art architecture and agriculture at Laurita Winery.

June Meeting Location Changed!

Due to our record rainfall this month, my backyard is one big Mud-Pit and there is more rainfall in the forecast for this friday as well...so we are canceling Raku night at my place and having a meeting at the barn instead. There is some news to go over, we will have a show and tell, Ellen has some Altered Books information she would like to present, and if time permits, we will discuss the ins and outs of keeping an internet blog. Hope to see you there!

PS...we are not scheduled to have a meeting in July, but if I have enough people interested in attending, I would be more than happy to do the Raku night the 3rd friday in July...so let me know if you would come!

The Millstone native, who graduated valedictorian of the Allentown High School class of 1981, grew up in a single parent household as one of six children. In a house "filled with noise," quests for quiet and beauty were constant, necessary pursuits for her. Read Full Article Here.

Flashes of Hope

There is timelessness in a portrait. It is a memorial to a moment of personal history, where a telling expression speaks for a life. The Mona Lisa's smile. Albert Einstein's eyes....Please click on the link to read the article in this past Sunday's Star Ledger about AAG Member Jeff Martin's work with Flashes of Hope. Read the full article here.
